Plus we had money left over from last year, is it good enough? I like our signings but Hart is a loan, Zabaleta old. If Sakho and Carrol break down again and we all know Carrol certainly will then it's Hernandez every game and that's a big ask of him.

Southampton are lauded as a club model we should aspire to, whilst our owners are said to be snidey shysters that have no clue, yet we have finished 1 point behind them the last two seasons.

Nope, you are not getting my point and your example shows that net spend means little unless you take into account all the other factors and are well run. I said you need to be well run and spend money when necessary.

I have said all along that a measure of a club's ambition is not NET spend, it's TOTAL spend.
Our total spend is only around 40m though which is low for a club our size with our apparent ambitions.
Spurs have a zero net spend last 5 or so years but have spent much more than us and have a much better team. You need to spend big money sometimes but be well run at the same time. We do neither.
Naturally I got dogs abuse from the usual know it all site twats for this insight"

You said that unless Everton and Barca have a positive net spend by replacing Lakaku and Neymar that means they are unambitious.
I wish we were as unambitious as Southampton.
I have repeatedly said that a club needs to be well run too and not just spend money, so not sure what your point is there either.

Barca, Spurs and Everton will probably end the window with a low net spend but a high Total spend, does this make them unambitious?
The point is as I said originally it depends on the circumstances and how well run you are as it is not possible to replace those type of players. How would Everton attract a better player than Lakaku? Fact is even if they wanted to spend more than 75m to replace him, how would they attract that type of player?
